I had a Great Job and my life was good!
How can I make it better?

The good and the bad

I had professional recognition. A high paying job. A jet setter life. I dined in nice restaurants and attended star studded entertainment industry events. But behind all that, is a life full of stress and fatigues. I worked 18 hours day,  did 3 out of 5 late night conference calls weekly, followed by non-stop back to back meetings in the day, chasing endless deadlines and fighting fires! My health was suffering! I often asked myself, is that worth it? How much money is enough? Is that what I wanted to do for the rest of my life?

A new purpose

Since making the decision to leave my last role and exit the corporate world, I spent lots of time reflecting and exploring. Do I want to go back to the rat race? Perhaps No.  The truth is.. I cant find a job that truly excites me! Am I too young to retire even though I have the financial independence to do so?  Maybe.  There is also an inner desire to do something more meaningful. Something that can impact lives!

I wanted a second career that is rewarding and fulfilling. I want to use my experience to help others. I want to continue to build relationships with people. I want a job that will help me learn and develop as a person.  Most importantly, I want the flexibility to live and work where I want! Coaching checks all the boxes!  Hence, I took time to train as a Coach. It is still work in progress as learning is a lifelong goal for coaches! It also gives me great satisfaction when I help my clients gain awareness and achieve their goals!

A flourishing life

In my last job, many people claimed to be in their "dream jobs" and were paid handsomely,  yet I saw anxieties, fear and stress all around.  Myself included. I started looking into the "whys" and what is needed to have an all rounded life.  I discovered Positive Psychology which is the science of Well-Being. It is the study of what is going right with people and how to use those insights and tools to help people not only cope, but to thrive. In today's VUCA world, human flourishing is so key! I wish I had prioritised that earlier. The good news is.. Happiness can be learned.  I am now a trained Positive Psychology Practitioner and I incorporate strengths based intervention, Mindfulness practices, Emotional Intelligence management and Resilience training in my coaching. I strongly believe that individuals can attain overall well- being while being successful in their jobs!
